These two drawings are about commonly known gestures and postures.
As an example, I searched the keywords “success” and “failure” in a big commercial database. The results were as I expected: everything related to “success” rises up in the air – arms thrown over the head, cups of champagane ringing, mouths wide open with joy. Failure, on the other hand, is represented by rumpled paperballs, broken things in general and by people on the ground: heads burried in the hands, eyes shedding tears.
These images are so widely known that the viewer immediately know what they are about. On the next occassion of success they just know what to do – stand with your legs firmly on the ground, throw your arms up in the air, clench your fists then pull your elbows down with a quick movement. “You can shout “YES!” – if you want to.”
